The Convoy Timeline

Russ Storoschuk, owner of Tidy industries, and Rick Guerrier, a top building supplies salesman from Edmonton, seize an opportunity to enter into the industrial and commercial building products distribution business. Their partnership forms Convoy Supply Ltd. in February of 1972. The first warehouse at 1656 S. Quinn Street, Prince George, BC, specialized in fibreglass batt and foam board insulation.

A fire on Quinn Street in late 1974 precipitates the relocation of Convoy Supply/Tidy Industries to 1773 Lyon Street. With the new location came the need for a new manager. George Floria joins the team.

The Convoy team continues to expand in work, play…and moustache size!

Convoy chooses beautiful Victoria, BC for its second location.

The purchase of Convoy Victoria’s first truck begins what is to become a large and varied fleet of vehicles.

Convoy expands to BC interior in Kamloops, Kelowna & Terrace

Convoy’s first Alberta location, in Edmonton opens just in time for the Oilers to win the Stanley Cup. We are pretty sure the 2 events are related!

Convoy expands into Nanaimo and Penticton.

Surrey administrative office moves to Convoy’s first Lower Mainland location in Surrey, BC.

Convoy opens in Calgary, Alberta and the start of the NHL is delayed by a 104 day lockout. There is definitely no relationship between the 2 events!

New branches in London, Kitchener and Rexdale, Ontario prove their commitment to customer service…whatever it takes!

Convoy celebrates surviving Y2K by expanding into Oshawa and Ottawa.

2002 marks some significant changes for Convoy. With Rick Guerrier’s retirement, Ali Nanji begins a decade as president and Soprema officially partners with Convoy Supply.

As Regina celebrates 100 years since incorporation, Convoy embarks on a journey into Saskatchewan opening locations in Regina and Saskatoon. A new location in Ontario opens in Hamilton.

Convoy’s Alberta presence expands to Red Deer.

For its first foray into French Canada, Convoy opens in Gatineau, Quebec (pictured above). And a new Ontario location in Scarborough opens up.

Branches open in Windsor, ON and Delta, BC (pictured above).

And grow Convoy did…in St. Catharines (pictured above) & Barrie, Ontario.

Stepping into the centre of Canada, Convoy opens the first Manitoba location in Winnipeg.

Convoy acquires Granite Building Supply, establishing Convoy’s presence in the USA with branches in Auburn and Spokane, Washington as well as Portland, Oregon (pictured above). Ontario expands north to Sudbury, ON.

Vancouver’s Olympic bid provides a need for new roofs. Convoy partners with contractors and key suppliers to cover the Richmond Oval, Pacific Coliseum and Convention Centre expansions. Convoy in Ontario opens Simplex Tapered (pictured above) to better facilitate tapered insulation needs. New locations open in Lynnwood, WA, Eugene, OR and Grande Prairie, AB.

Convoy Scarborough expands in Pickering, ON and a US location is added in Bellingham, WA (pictured above).

Convoy becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Soprema and Alma Garnett becomes President. Convoy US enters Tacoma, WA.

Burnaby branch expands to new location in Coquitlam (yard at 100 Golden Drive pictured above) and Victoria moves to a new and larger location. Convoy in Ontario opens another location in Ottawa West.

TED moves to the Vancouver Convention Centre. (Did we mention that Convoy supplied the green roof?) Edmonton opens a second location for residential supplies and Convoy Auburn, WA expands to a new location in Kent, WA.

Convoy goes big with a new tradeshow booth. The booth was the talk of the show at RoofTech and Western States Roofing Expo.

Convoy opens a new location in Courtenay, BC. Convoy Ontario supplies roofs for the new Milton Velodrome and Pan Am Soccer Stadium in Hamilton.

Convoy’s builds its first built-to-suit distribution centre in Fort St. John, BC (pictured above). In the Prairies, Convoy buys the first two B-Trains of the fleet.

Convoy opens in Helena, our first branch in Montana, as well as a new location in Pasco, WA.

Convoy Supply is continually growing in a dynamic industry, and our brand needs to reflect that. 2018 saw the introduction of Convoy's new look!

We open Capitol Heights, Convoy Supply's first branch in Maryland! (Winston the dog isn't in charge at Capitol Heights, but don't tell him that.)

Convoy creates the position of Vice President of Sales and brings Jamie Mantle, formerly of SOPREMA, aboard to fill the new role.
